Crazy Weekend
It's always a bad sign when you're almost happy when the weekend is over. I knew it was going to be busy, but as usual, other things happened. On Friday, mom and I were getting ready for a big rummage sale on our block on Saturday. Plus, Saturday Alex, dad and two of Alex's buddies were going to widen my sidewalk going from the house to the garage so my little cart to carry groceries won't veer off into the snow. So, Friday, after a super-busy day at work, mom and I spent hours scouring the basements of two houses and pricing. Just as we finished, she stepped out to say hi to one of my neighbors and her knee gave out.
Now, she's been having knee trouble for awhile, in fact, had an appointment scheduled for Monday with the orthepedic surgeon. But her knee didn't want to wait. It was lucky a neighbor was there to grab a chair to keep her from going down. Once she realized it wasn't getting better and she couldn't put any weight on it, she managed to get in my car and I took her to the emergency room.
At this point it was almost ten at night and I was supposed to work at 6. Knowing emergency rooms, I figured it'd be awhile (not that I was alone there, Alex and dad joined me, but no way I was gonna sleep til I knew what was up). So, called the on-call supervisor and he managed to get somebody to cover me (I am going to thank her profusely tomorrow and owe her a Saturday to be named later). In the end, all they did was give mom a big full leg-length knee brace, crutches, and percocet, since she had the standing appointment and all.
She's doing okay, better than Friday, mostly cuz she's stayed off of it. She is however, bored off her skull. I brought over a pile of light DVDs and my Gameboy with Tetris for her today.
Meanwhile, I had to go run the rummage on minimal sleep on Saturday. We didn't get rid of as much as we'd like, but we did sell all big stuff, so we actually made some money on it. And I do have a nice wide sidewalk, though that ended up being a bigger job than anyone anticipated.
I dithered a bit, but ended up going to a retirement party for some co-workers late Saturday afternoon. That was fun and I am glad I went. Was interesting to meet some spouses and kids. And it was a nice chance to relax.
Today I worked and went and kept mom company while the sidewalk finished, but that was plenty. At least tomorrow I'll be back to my routine, but til we know what's up with mom's knee, it's gonna be kinda nuts. And oh yeah, Alex gets his wisdom teeth out Tuesday!
